Last Christmas, in the midst of a global lockdown, The Larder joined forces with partners throughout West Lothian to support those going without food at Christmas; this season we will do just that. With support and collaboration of local partners, we will be providing 450 Christmas dinners to those experiencing food insecurity this Christmas and are looking to the general public to help this cause.

Currently, in West Lothian, 23% of people are living below the poverty line. That’s 42,000 people who are facing various levels of food insecurity. Since May 2020, the 39 partnership organisations that create the West Lothian Food Network have provided food support for approximately 4,000 people per week.

To support this, we are looking for donations of just £5 which will go directly to ensuring no one in their West Lothian community goes hungry this Christmas. This £5 donation will support our chefs and young people in training to create a high-quality, three-course Christmas dinner, delivered to the doors of people in need by our wonderful volunteers. Alongside this offering, we are providing shortbread boxes for adults and selection boxes for the young children they support.

Angela Moohan, CEO, The Larder, said: “There is enough wealth in the world to feed everyone.   Whilst we wait on Governments to take the steps needed to end poverty we alleviate hunger with dignity where we can.  This Christmas many people are going to be without food, you can make a difference by donating as little as £5 to help us make Christmas day a little bit better, with a hot meal in the bellies of 450 people.”.
